Adam gave up his chance to escape from the building because he saw the figure with a devil mask.  Finally, Adam confronts  the stranger, who takes the devil mask off.  It is Ian, who is supposed to be in jail.  He had been working with Adam for a few months on the Peragon Project, which is a virus that is programmed to take Newman Enterprises down.
