After the proceedings in the court, Nick has temporarily lost custody of Christian because it ordered that Christian stay with a family member until a decision is reached.  Chelsea, Adam's ex-wife, says to Nick that if she had gone back to Adam, he would not have demanded the custody.  Nick does not want her to think that way.

Chelsea, no. I'm not going to let you think that for one more second. You don't want to be with Adam, you don't want him having any influence over Connor. And it wasn't a real offer. It was a test, it was a mind game.

But it would have bought us time. I could've stalled bringing Connor here because he is at camp. In the meantime, maybe I could've gotten through to Adam, convinced him to drop this fight against you.
